The weather in Port Elizabeth has been strange lately and today’s weather was super sweet so my mom and I thought it’d be a perfect afternoon to pop out a picnic in our own front yard.
Flagstone Wines has recently teamed up with me and so I thought that today would be the perfect day to try out their wines and pair them with some cheeses.
Something I learned today:
- White wines match best with soft cheeses and stronger flavours - Red wines match best with hard cheeses and milder flavours - Fruity and sweet wines work with a wider range of cheeses - The more pungent the cheese you choose, the sweeter the wine should be
The type of cheeses that work well with the wines I’m trying:
Chenin Blanc: Brie, Goats Milk, White Stilton with apricots or cranberries
Pinotage: Gouda, Parmesan and Cheddar
It was so lovely spending some quality time and laughing with my mom. We LOVED the wines and the cheeses that we paired together.
We started our picnic off with the Flagstone Bush Vine Chenin Blanc. We paired this wine with Camembert cheese on crackers with some strawberries on the side. Finally, we ended off with some Flagstone Pinotage and a mature cheddar cheese on crackers with some grapes. Zoe enjoyed the picnic just as much, because my mom was bribing her with biltong in order to pose for photos!
